Federal Guidelines & Policy
All animal studies at Pitt must be conducted in accordance with the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The PHS Policy requires adherence to the following:
- The U.S. Government Principles for the Utilization and Care of Vertebrate Animals Used in Testing, Research, and Training
- The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
- The AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals
Studies and teaching activities on species covered by the Animal Welfare Act and Regulations must also comply with these regulations.
